Liquids coalesce only for as long as their various gravities will allow. Leave a cup of tea for long enough the infused tea particles, being heavier than the supporting water, will sink – settle – and two distinct layers will become apparent. Some liquids (and solids) require the addition of an emulsifying agent, a softener, in order to be merged - detergent is used to this end when removing food residue from crockery. Objects coalesce in the mind of the viewer for only as long as their various gravities will allow, with the co- efficient being that of the act of cognition. Consideration imparts density, thoughts orbit and collide, invisible elements take palpable form and a body emerges. When multiplied the result is sometimes reductive, sometimes not. Two like things may be considered members of a set, thus the body which emerges is that of the set, with the constituent members lost. Repetition can be used to deny the set and individuate its constituent parts. The result is a denotation of divergence – perhaps best described by the standard deviations of statistics - from the conceptual centre, the corpus, which allows the set to be recognized as such.
