Hello again readers, it’s been a long time since we last saw you and we’d love to catch up. What are you doing Wednesday? Perhaps we can catch up? After a quiet couple of months rm103 reopens its doors this week, having spent the last few months beavering away on a few different projects, catching up with old friends and working on a well-deserved tan. It’s high time to get back to business though, and to get the ball-rolling again we have a project that we have call Tabletalk, our first show with Ian Lewis, as well a few treats that we’ve been working on during the break.
We also have Ian Lewis joining us for a solo-show, unveiling recent projects that he has been developing such as ‘ArtCap’, ‘Satartday’ and a machine to turn ideas into physical realities. With works that have been exploring the ways in which art may or not be made, Lewis’ propositions ascribe a set of parameters or limits to the art-making process, giving daily routine or a machine the power to create art.
And alongside these two shows we have a collection of work that could perhaps be titled ‘What We Did In The Holidays’ - some collected work from the recent rm103 mail-art project, ‘Dear Reader’, as well as few other treats as well. During summer the heat at Achilles House can be suffocating, and faced with the prospect of sweltering not-so-sveltely at the gallery, we figured art might perhaps be something best enjoyed from the comfort of home - with a cool drink while sitting on the stoop, ankle-deep in the paddling pool, maybe in the back-yard hammock, or wherever else you'd like to be. So with this in mind we decided to take art out of the gallery and put it into the mailboxes of a host of art fans, from Dunedin to Devonport, and a post-truck load of other spots round the country. So far four pieces have been posted, featuring the work of Nicola Farquhar, MOOMOO Magazine, Nick Austin and an anonymous contributor, while another by Grant Matheson is on its way any day soon. So join us on Wednesday at a not-so-sweltering gallery to see the collected pieces, and more… |
